Benefits of a Complete Fridge Cleaning During the Rains

Why do we Use the Fridge?
We use the fridge in our homes to store ingredients (fresh vegetables, readymade sauces, etc) and left over foods, primarily. We also use it to keep things cold (drinks, water, ice cream)
But the reason we do so is to keep the food items as fresh as possible and to preserve them for a longer duration. Left out in the open, every one of the items are bound to spoil faster.
With every change in season, there are different care techniques to follow that not only increase the shelf life of the stored food items in the fridge, but also to prevent the fridge from odours and more.
During the monsoons, due to the moisture in the air, every thing around us gets affected. Be it furniture, footwear, walls and so on. This is the main season during which you will notice fungus on leather, mould on walls, bad smell in the air and so on.
A complete fridge cleaning at regular intervals is anyway a rule that every home owner should follow, to ensure a germ free fridge. During the monsoon the importance and benefits of a fridge cleaning are more. Here’s why,
Prevents Bacteria on Food
If you leave a piece of bread in the fridge for more than a couple of days, no matter what the season, there will be growth of fungus / bacteria on it. However, during the monsoon, the difference is that this may grow faster or sooner, just like during the winters it may grow slower. A complete fridge cleaning includes wiping the fridge with the right solution and checking the food items.
Increases Shelf Life of Fridge
Nobody likes to replace their fridge every year! People buy fridges with the aim of at least making it last for 4-5 years, minimum! A regular cleaning and especially a thorough one during the rains will also help increase the shelf life of the fridge. When the fridge is left dirty for too long, the inner parts are bound to get affected over time.
Prevents Odours
Many home owners will complain of odours emitting from the fridge when they open and shut the door. This happens primarily due to 2 reasons- spilt food or dirt in the fridge. During the monsoon, your food items may get spoilt faster. A thorough cleaning ensures that these odours are prevented from forming in the first place. No one wants a bad smell in the house now do they?
Better Health for the family
You would never dream of serving your family spoilt food, would you? A clean fridge ensures better hygiene. Health and hygiene are connected. Just like a dirty bathroom can be the cause of disease, so can a dirty, unkempt fridge!
